Mississippi Scratch Offs
Mississippi started offering scratch off lottery tickets around the beginning of 2020.
Their website doesn't publish remaining prices for all prize tiers. Only the ~5-6 top prize tiers are published. We can use that data to estimate the numbers for the lower tiers.
The score calculation is a little different for Mississippi compared to other states. Since they don't publish remaining prizes for all tiers, we have lump all low-tier prizes together. That's why the lowest tier prizes for Mississippi are shown as "< $XX". It's the estimated total for all tickets under the lowest reported prize tier. For a $1 ticket, the lowest reported prize tier might be $26. So we estimate the number of tickets for all prizes less than $26. That might be free tickets, $2, $5, $10, and $20. We label all those as "< $26".
The most important estimation for this calculation, the estimation that every other number is based on, is the expected value of the game. We chose 70% since that is about the average expected value we've seen for all scratch offs for other states. We then adjust the score based on the proportion of grand prizes remaining to the number of other prize tiers remaining.
You can visit the Mississippi Lottery website and double check any of the numbers you see here. They update the number of remaining prizes every week.
